Path of the Great War

WALK “ON THE PATH OF FIRST WORLD WAR”

Cimetière militaire

Étaples-sur-mer was unquestionably the principal place for quartering British troops in the Pas de Calais during the Great War: 12 km² of training camp (the largest British camp in France). During periods of intense activity nearly 100,000 sick and wounded convalesced there in prefab hospitals. The authorities were also obliged to quickly create a military cemetery, the largest Commonwealth forces cemetery in France (6 hectares) with a total of almost 11,500 graves.

Walking this route and especially through the military cemetery, the last visible trace of this period, discover the origins of this place of memory and its setting up, architecture, construction, etc.

We provide you with a brochure (in French, English and Dutch) to ensure that you discover this interpretive path in the best possible way.
